Privacy
This page covers nuku, a workout tracker for iPhone made by Noel Mete in Aotearoa New Zealand, and what happens to your information when you use it.
The short version
Your training log stays on your phone. There are no accounts, no nuku server and no advertising tools. The only analytics are RevenueCat's subscription numbers, described below. The only information that leaves your phone is what Apple and RevenueCat, our subscription service, need to handle a Premium subscription.
What stays on your phone
Everything you put into nuku: workouts, sets, weights, reps, notes, your bodyweight, your programme and your settings. It is stored on your iPhone only. We can't see it, and nobody else can through us.
If your iPhone backs up to iCloud or to a computer, nuku's data is included in that backup, the same as other apps. Apple's privacy policy covers those backups.
Purchases
If you subscribe to nuku Premium, Apple takes the payment. We never see your name, email, Apple Account or card details.
To check whether your subscription is active, nuku uses RevenueCat, a subscription service. RevenueCat receives:
- a random ID made by the app, which isn't linked to your name or Apple Account
- your App Store purchase record (which plan, when it started and renews, trial status)
- basic technical details needed to make the request, such as your device's IP address, app version and country
We use this to unlock Premium and to restore it on a new phone, and to see subscription numbers in RevenueCat (how many people subscribe, renew or cancel). It is not used for advertising, and it isn't sold or shared with anyone else. Read RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Apple Health
If you have Premium and turn on Apple Health in nuku's Settings, nuku saves each workout you finish to the Health app on your iPhone: the workout type (strength training) and its start and end time. nuku doesn't read anything from Health. This stays on your phone and in Apple's Health app; nothing is sent to us. You can turn it off in nuku's Settings, or in the Health app under Sharing, Apps.
Notifications
When your rest time ends, nuku can alert you. These are local notifications made on your phone; nothing is sent to us. You can turn them off in your iPhone's Settings.
Crash reports
If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. They contain technical details about the crash, not your training data. You can turn this off in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
Deleting your data
Delete the nuku app and its data is gone from your phone. To end a subscription, cancel it in your iPhone's Settings (your name, then Subscriptions). If you want us to ask RevenueCat to delete your purchase record, email us.
Children
We don't make nuku for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
Under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 you can ask what information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Because your log is on your phone, we hold almost nothing. Email [email protected] and we'll reply within 10 working days. If you're not happy with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change means more information leaves your phone, we'll say so in the app first.
